Manchester United summer target on 'radar' amid Liverpool and Manchester City links

Manchester United have the chance to bolster their ranks in January

Everton are yet to open new contract talks with Manchester United target Jarrad Branthwaite, according to the Daily Mail. The report claims he is still on the ‘radar’ of the Red Devils and is also wanted by fellow Premier League sides Manchester City and Liverpool.

Branthwaite, who is 22-years-old, sees his current deal with the Toffees expire in June 2027. Sean Dyche’s side managed to keep hold of him in the last transfer window amid attention from elsewhere.

United could still see the England international as one for the future at Old Trafford. The likes of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof see their contracts run out at the end of the season.

Branthwaite started his career at Carlisle United and rose up through the ranks of the Footbal League side. He broke into their first-team as a teenager and went on to play 14 matches.

Everton snapped him up in 2019 and he was loaned out to Blackburn Rovers and PSV to get some experience under his belt. The Cumbria-born man has since broken into the starting XI at Goodison Park and has made 64 apearances in all competitions to date, 10 of which have come in this campaign so far, and he has scored four goals.

United have been linked with him for a while and time will tell whether they are able to get him. They will have to fend off competition from elsewhere if they were to land his signature with City and Liverpool also mentioned as suitors.

The Red Devils face Newcastle United up next as they look to return to winning ways. Their boss Ruben Amorim has said: "The manager of Manchester United can never, no matter what, be comfortable. I know the business that I am in. I know that if we do not win – regardless if they paid the buyout or not – I know that every manager is in danger and I like that, because that is our job. So I understand the question. You can say that I have been here a month and I have had four training [sessions], but we are not winning. So I have that; that is a reality, and I am quite comfortable with that."

He added: “We have to fight against everything, because our supporters are always there. But they are tired of this moment. We have to expect that any play from Newcastle near our box is going to make the stadium nervous and our players have to cope with that. It is a very strong team, very fast, with a lot of pace and a lot of time with the same coach. We want to be competitive and try to win the game. That is all."
