Man United could make 'surprise' move for 'potential Marcus Rashford replacement' in January
A roundup of some of the latest transfer rumours for Manchester United ahead of the January window.
Manchester United have some significant ground to make up in the Premier League after their latest defeat to Wolves set them further back in their push to crack the top half of the table. The Red Devils will enter 2025 outside the top ten regardless of their result against Newcastle United.
The first challenge of the new year will bring a clash with Liverpool, who are currently six points clear at the top of the table. United will then be able to start their January transfer plans as they prepare for the second half of the season. Ahead of their final game of the year, we’ve taken a look at some of the latest rumours for United and this new Ruben Amorim chapter.
United could make ‘surprise’ January move for striker
United have been linked with a ‘surprise’ move for Paris Saint-Germain striker Randal Kolo Muani during the January transfer window. According to Football Insider, the French giants are ‘ready’ to let the 26-year-old leave the club in the new year and the Red Devils are among the Premier League clubs showing interest in his signature.
The outlet reported United’s interest earlier this month, as RB Leipzig are also interested in snapping up Kolo Muani. The 26-year-old ‘could be viewed as a potential replacement’ for the exit-linked Marcus Rashford, who recently revealed his stance on his future.
The England international’s bombshell comments about being ‘ready for a new challenge’ have opened up conversations regarding his next chapter and also how the United attack will look moving forwards. Kolo Muani has had interest shown in him from ‘several Premier League’ clubs ahead of January but United’s ‘financial issues’ could make this deal tricky as Sir Jim Ratcliffe looks to cut costs.
Kolo Muani notched 12 goals and six assists last season while showing off his versatility to play across all three attacking positions.
United rule out January moves for duo
United are expected to oversee a number of moves in 2025 — both incomings and outgoings. While Rashford remains the most-discussed potential sale, others are also being speculated. However, there are two who will not be leaving Old Trafford in the new year.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils have ‘absolutely no intention’ of allowing either André Onana or Lisandro Martínez to pursue a move in January. Speaking to GiveMeSport, the transfer expert revealed that they aren’t looking to replace them either as the situation is ‘completely under control’.
There are reportedly no discussions ongoing between United and any other club over the potential departure of either Onana or Martínez.
