Manchester United player wanted in 'swoop' by Ruud van Nistelrooy in January
Manchester United have the chance to do some transfer business in January
Leicester City could ‘swoop’ for Manchester United youngster Toby Collyer on loan this winter, as per a report by The Sun. The prospect has emerged as a potential loan target for the Foxes in the upcoming transfer window.
The Premier League side have recently turned to Ruud van Nistelrooy as their manager. He has the chance to put his own stamp on his newly inherited squad with some new faces next month.
United’s Collyer, who is 20-years-old, could be seen by Leicester as someone to add more competition and depth to their midfield ranks ahead of the second-half of the season. He is under contract at Old Trafford until the summer of 2027.
He was handed an extension in July which shows he is highly-rated by his current club. The Brighton-born man hailed his more senior teammates back in October: "I can’t put it into words how grateful I am.
"Without them, I wouldn’t be able to reach the level I’ve got to at the minute. I think as much as I’ve done hard work, they’ve worked hard with me as well to help me and give me tips, like I’ve said previously. It’s massive for me."
"[When you play with them] you learn so much, just little things: them speaking to you during the game about your positioning or certain things to look for when you get the ball, certain areas to pick up. But everyone in the group is really massive for my development and they’ve all helped me improve so much already."
He added: “[I want to] just to get as many minutes as possible this year. Honestly, just get as many minutes, just keep improving and just take each day as it comes. Don’t look too far ahead, just stay in the present."
Collyer rose up through the ranks at Brighton and Hove Albion before moving up north in 2022 when United came calling. The England youth international has since been a regular for the Red Devils’ development side.
He made his first-team debut in their Community Shield clash against Manchester City in August. He has since played twice more this term.
United have a big decision to make on what to do with Collyer next. A temporary exit to Leicester would help him get some regular game time under his belt in the top flight which would boost his development as the Foxes look to avoid an immediate relegation back to the Championship.
