Man Utd target makes transfer plans clear as ten Hag ‘narrows’ defender chase down to two

Manchester United fans will be keen to turn the page to next season after a campaign to forget.

It’s the start of yet another era for United, with Erik ten Hag now at the helm, starting work earlier than expected at Old Trafford.

The Dutch boss has his work cut out to turn things around, with both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick failing in their attempts this season.

De Jong speaks out

Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong has denied talk he is joining Manchester United.

The Dutchman has not ruled anything out at this stage, but speaking to ESPN, he said nothing has happened yet.

"Of course I hear about the links to Manchester United, but the people in charge of the club [Barcelona] didn't tell me anything.

“So then I will assume there is no agreement, and that nothing is going on. So then I won't worry about it too."

Crucially, he also added: “I prefer to stay in Barcelona, I’ve said it before,” De Jong told ESPN. “Barca is the club of my dreams since I was little.

“If other clubs call I’ll take the call, of course; it’s something that’s always done.”

Defensive targets

United are said to have narrowed their defender chase down to just two players.

According to journalist Rudy Galetti, the Red Devils are now focussed on Jurrien Timber and Pau Torres.

Timber, who is a 20-years-old, is said to be a likely candidate to be United’s first signing amid ‘close’ contract between the Premier League giants and Ajax.

Nunez interest

The Red Devils are said to be genuinely interested in pulling off a deal to sign Benfica frontman Darwin Nunez.

That’s according to Football Transfers, who report that Nunez has already met with Premier League clubs amid interest heading into this summer.

Liverpool, Newcastle United and Tottenham are named as the other Premier League clubs eyeing a move.
