Neves’ current Wolves contract runs until the end of the 2023/24 season, meaning they have no immediate need to sell him.

However, it is also reported that Bruno Lage is already closing in on a potential replacement for Neves in Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Palhinha.

According to The Star, new Old Trafford boss Erik ten Hag has made the striker one of his main targets for the summer transfer window but the club have been told it will cost £100m to pry him away from the Stadium of Light.

The report also claims that United have ‘had him watched several times’ but will not be ‘held to ransom’ if Benfica refuse to lower the asking price.
