Man Utd move for Wolves star after being ‘priced out’ of £100m transfer

The Red Devils had hoped to bring one of Europe’s hottest centre forwards to Old Trafford but could instead look to raid their Premier League rivals.

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves.

According to The Sun, United are “on the verge of making a final push” to sign the Portuguese star.

However, they could face competition for the 25-year old from Barcelona.

The news comes at the same time as The Star have reported that the £100m price tag placed on Darwin Nunez by Benfica has seen the Red Devils “priced out” of a move.

Here is everything you need to know about that has been reported on United’s interest in both Neves and Nunez:

Manchester United to move for Wolves’ Neves

As per The Sun, Manchester United will make a ‘final push’ to land Ruben Neves from Wolves after reportedly seeing a £35m bid for the 25-year old turned down in January.

The publication claims that United’s Premier League rivals wanted £40m for the striker in the winter but now value him at around £50m with Barcelona also rumoured to be in the running for his signature.

Neves’ current Wolves contract runs until the end of the 2023/24 season, meaning they have no immediate need to sell him.

However, it is also reported that Bruno Lage is already closing in on a potential replacement for Neves in Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Palhinha.

Man Utd could miss out on £100m valued Nunez

The Star claim United may have been ‘priced out’ of a £100m move for Benfica striker Darwin Nunez.

The 22-year old Uruguayan is one of the most sought after forwards in Europe and has previously been linked with other Premier League sides like Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle United and more.

According to The Star, new Old Trafford boss Erik ten Hag has made the striker one of his main targets for the summer transfer window but the club have been told it will cost £100m to pry him away from the Stadium of Light.

The report also claims that United have ‘had him watched several times’ but will not be ‘held to ransom’ if Benfica refuse to lower the asking price.

Latest Manchester United transfer news

Elsewhere in the transfer rumour mill, a report from Pete O’Rourke claims that ‘right now’, Newcastle are the favourites to sign United goalkeeper Dean Henderson ahead of the summer transfer window.

Henderson has made just two appearances for United this season, one in the FA Cup and one in the EFL Cup.

He previously spent time on loan at Sheffield United, Stockport County, Grimsby and Shrewsbury Town.

Finally, the Manchester Evening News have reported that United have consulted Ten Hag on the possibility of signing Villarreal’s Spanish defender Pau Torres in the summer transfer window.

The Spain international was a crucial part of the Yellow Submarine side who reached the semi-finals of this season’s Champions League.
