Manchester United are now just days away from returning to action after more than a month on the sidelines.

The World Cup final takes place this Sunday, and just three days later, Erik ten Hag’s men will return to competitive action, taking on Burnley in the Carabao Cup. United’s return to Premier League action will come the day after Boxing Day when they face strugglers Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford, and they will need to hit the ground running as they look to make up ground on the top four.

In the meantime, we have rounded up all the latest transfer news and rumours surrounding Old Trafford.

Dumfries too pricey

United are said to be assessing other options amid their interest in Inter Milan and Netherlands star Denzel Dumfries.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the right-back is likely to be too expensive for the Red Devils in the January transfer window. “Manchester United position on right back situation is clear: priority is to extend Diogo Dalot’s contract, it will be discussed soon,” Romano told CaughtOffside.

“Then it will be time to sell Aaron Wan-Bissaka, agents are exploring Premier League destinations. Then to replace him with new right back, Denzel Dumfries as of today is too expensive; Jeremie Frimpong is just one of many options. It’s still early.”

Wan-Bissaka interest

Speaking of Wan-Bissaka, the out-of-favour United right-back is said to be attracting attention from elsewhere in the Premier League.

According to talkSPORT on Twitter, Wolves have expressed an interest in signing the former Crystal Palace star with Julen Lopetegui looking to put his stamp on his new squad.

It’s claimed United are open to offers for Wan-Bissaka as long as they can source a replacement, and it’s likely they will lose money on the £50million investment they made in the full-back.
