Manchester United player ratings as 'unacceptable' 3/10 and four 4s struggle in 2-0 Wolves defeat

Man Utd player ratings from their Boxing Day defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.

Bruno Fernandes let Manchester United down as they were defeated 2-0 by Wolves in the Premier League on Boxing Day. Ruben Amorim made just two changes from the side that lost to Bournemouth last time as Rasmus Hojlund and Leny Yoro came in from the start, while Marcus Rashford missed his fourth consecutive match.

In what was an open first-half devoid of many clear chances, Diogo Dalot curled a good effort at goal that required a decent save from Jose Sa and Andre Onana made an acrobatic save to tip away a Jorgen Strand Larsen header. Lisandro Martinez sent a tame effort at the Wolves goal and Nelson Semedo went close to an opener with a speculative long-range shot.

It didn't take long for the second half to liven up though, as United captain Bruno Fernandes was shown a red card seconds after the restart after picking up his second yellow card. Things almost went from bad to worse when Wolves went up the other end and put the ball in the back of the net, only for Larsen to have been ruled offside after a VAR check.

United's woes grew when Manuel Ugarte picked up a yellow card that will also see him suspended for the next match against Newcastle on Monday night, before history repeated itself again when Matheus Cunha scored directly from a corner kick and Hee-Chan Hwang added a second at the death to condemn Amorim to a third successive defeat.

Here is how we rated the United players at Molineux:

Andre Onana - 4

An unacceptable goal to concede. Onana struggled to command his box well enough throughout the match and was punished for it.

Leny Yoro - 4

It was another match to forget for the French defender. He was booked for a clumsy foul in the first-half and found things tough throughout.

Harry Maguire - 5

A few good moments of last-ditch defending when required. There was nothing he could do about either goal really.

Lisandro Martinez - 6

A big improvement on recent showings. Did well to deal with some awkward moments and was alert in the opposing box.

Noussair Mazraoui - 5

He's not as influential at wing-back as he is in a central role but he played well again and kept things simple.

Diogo Dalot - 6

This was better than played in recent weeks, which isn't saying much. He fired a good effort at goal.

Manuel Ugarte - 6

It was a very lively and encouraging performance again before he picked up a silly booking that will see him miss the next match.

Kobbie Mainoo - 4

Mainoo can't be accused of a lack of effort but was guilty of giving the ball away too easily on several occasions.

Amad Diallo - 4

Amad was lively on the ball and always looked to run at the opposition but lacked any meaningful end product.

Bruno Fernandes - 3

An unacceptable red card to top off an underwhelming individual performance. Amorim needs much more from his captain.

Rasmus Hojlund - 5

Another extremely frustrating day in attack. Hojlund had little service but didn't impose himself enough either.

Antony - 5

He posed an attacking threat from the bench and sent a reasonable effort just wide of the post.

Casemiro - 5

A thankless task in the United midfield when they were a goal down and a man down. He pressed well enough.

Christian Eriksen - 5

Another who was done no favours by the role he was asked to do on the pitch.

Alejandro Garnacho - 6

He battled and work hard to win the ball back for his side in the short time he spent on the pitch.

Joshua Zirkzee - 5

Zirkzee got involved but didn’t offer enough of a threat between the goalposts. We’ve heard that one before.
