'In my opinion' - Vitor Pereira makes Ruben Amorim prediction at Manchester United

Man Utd were defeated by Wolves in the Premier League on Boxing Day.

Wolves manager Vitor Pereira is confident Ruben Amorim will enjoy success at Manchester United, as long as he is given the time to do so.

Amorim suffered his third successive defeat as United head coach at Molineux on Boxing Day, a result that means he has now lost half of his first ten matches in charge of the club, the worst start to a reign of any new United manager since Walter Crickmer in 1932.

He is also done no favours by the fact compatriot Pereira has now guided Wolves to two wins from two since taking charge, with their six points just one point fewer than Amorim has achieved in his first seven Premier League matches.

Speaking after the Boxing Day clash, Pereira was keen to playdown the comparisons, and insisted it is only a matter of time before Amorim proves his worth.

"It was not Vitor Pereira versus Ruben Amorim, it was Wolves against Manchester," Pereira said after the win. "Ruben is a top coach in my opinion and with time he will show his level. Today was a tough game, and I had the gift, the gift in my shoes. But difficult games, I feel the energy of the supporters and the atmosphere was special here. I am very happy inside."

There can be no ignoring the unacceptable results in recent weeks, though Amorim remains adamant he has the ability to turn things around, particularly once the fixture schedule begins to ease up and they play fewer matches in a week. The United head coach said: "We have to work on a lot of things in our club, inside the pitch, outside the pitch, so let’s focus on each game, each time. We have to use every minute of training and to improve the team."
