Man Utd hope to add Patrick Dorgu to their squad before deadline day of the January transfer window.

Manchester United aim to complete the signing of Lecce defender Patrick Dorgu this weekend. United have agreed an initial €30 million fee plus an extra €5m in potential add-ons that will see the 20-year-old become Ruben Amorim’s first signing at the club.

Amorim prioritised the addition of a wing-back this month and preferred Dorgu to other attainable targets in the January transfer window. United have financed the move by allowing Antony to join Real Betis on loan, while fellow full-back Tyrell Malacia will also be allowed to leave.

The United head coach believes the addition of a natural left-sided wing-back will bring greater balance to his team and allow them to push ahead with their tactical change under him. Diogo Dalot will primarily occupy the right wing-back position, while Noussair Mazroaui is viewed as suitable cover on either flank when required. United have already agreed to sign teenage full-back Diego Leon when he turns 18 in April.

What Fabrizio Romano said about Dorgu

Taking to social media on Thursday night, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano issued his latest update on Dorgu and revealed that the Danish youngster could complete his move to Old Trafford this weekend. "Current plan: Patrick Dorgu will travel to Manchester from Italy on Saturday. He’s gonna become Manchester United player on €30m plus €5m add-ons deal this weekend," he wrote on social media.

It means Dorgu could be present when United host Crystal Palace in the Premier League at 2pm GMT on Sunday, though he won't be eligible to play in the match if Romano's latest update is correct. Premier League rules state clubs must register new players before midday on the last working day before they play in a match, which is Friday for weekend matches. It means that although United don't face Palace until 2pm GMT on Sunday, they must successfully submit all relevant documentation by midday on Friday 31 January.

If that is the case, the earliest opportunity Dorgu will have to represent the club will be when they host Leicester City in the FA Cup fourth round next Friday night.
