Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek has been pictured running on the grass again as he steps up his recovery from a long-term injury.

The Dutchman hasn’t played for United since January when a collision with Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi resulted in Van de Beek suffering a knee injury which required surgery.

Erik ten Hag confirmed afterwards that the 26-year-old will not feature again this season but should be back in time for the start of the 2023/24 campaign.

The latest update on Van de Beek suggests that will be the case, with the ex-Ajax man continuing his rehab after the latest news in March that he had returned to the gym.

“Ultimately, the aim is for Donny to be in a position where he can return to playing first-team football next season and the latest images are a good sign,” United said on their website.

However, Van de Beek’s future at Old Trafford is uncertain, with the club willing to sell the central-midfielder this summer. Van de Beek has struggled to establish himself as a regular in the side since joining for a fee of £36m in 2020. In three years, Van de Beek has played just 60 times for United and has started on only 23 occasions.

The former Dutch international joined Everton on loan in January 2022 but played just seven times for the Toffees, mainly due to a thigh injury. Van de Beek was also at Old Trafford last Saturday as United beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 in the Premier League.
