Man Utd player ratings gallery - Two score 8/10 as five earn 7/10 in 2-0 win vs Wolves

Goals from Anthony Martial and Alejandro Garnacho wrapped up an important three points for Manchester United.

Manchester United took a huge step towards clinching a top-four place thanks to a 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

Anthony Martial scored in the first half for the Red Devils, who were by far the better side but failed to make their dominance pay until injury-time when substitute Alejandro Garnacho grabbed a well-deserved second.

It was a slow start at Old Trafford with United seeing a lot of the ball but struggling to find a way past Wolves’ low block. Craig Dawson did flash an effort wide from a corner in the early stages, while Antony should have done better with a United breakaway and placed a shot wide of the far post.

It took until the 27th minute for the first shot on target as Bruno Fernandes’ free-kick was held by Dan Bentley in the away goal. That seemed to spur United into life and within a few minutes Christian Eriksen curled wide from distance before Antony’s back-post header failed to hit the target.

On 32 minutes, the Red Devils found the opener via a well-constructed team goal with Jadon Sancho, Bruno Fernandes and Antony combining, before the latter slid the ball across to the waiting Martail to tap in his eighth goal of the season.

United continued on top in the latter stages of the first half with Bentley tipping over Victor Lindelof’s header that deflected off Matheus Cunha, while the Wolves stopper held Martial’s attempt in injury-time.

After the break, Antony had an early effort that was blocked, while he also shot wide on 59 minutes. Bentley continued to have a busy game and kept out strikes from Fernandes and then Sancho. As the second period continued, Casemiro’s deflected attempt flew wide, before Wout Weghorst failed to hit the target with a header from just a few yards out.

Fernandes had two shots that went close in the final five minutes of the 90, as United tried to put the game out of sight, while Bentley did well to keep out Antony’s low strike just second before the fourth official held up the board to show six minutes of added time.

And in injury-time, Garnacho ensured there were no late nerves for United when he netted from a counter-attack, as his shot went in off inside of the post. Here’s how we rated United’s players...
