Donny van de Beek posted a video of him working out in the gym as the Manchester United midfielder recovers from a long-term knee injury.

The Dutchman was on the receiving end of a strong tackle from Marco Senesi in the Red Devils’ 3-0 win over Bournemouth in January, although the Cherries defender did slip as he went to make the challenge.

Van de Beek has not played since and there has been no update from the player or club since Erik ten Hag confirmed on 13 January that the player would be ruled out for the season.

“Yes, it is his knee. On the long term it is looking really good, he will be back for the start of pre-season. The rest of the season he is out,” the United boss said at the time.

“[My] thoughts are really with him,” Ten Hag added. “It is terrible when you are in a season and you get a bad tackle, a bad injury, it is always really disappointing and your thoughts, feelings are with the player.

“You express that, our group did that really well and we are now happy his knee in the long term is good. Donny is also happy with that. But in the same moments it’s mixed feelings, disappointment he is out of this season.”

But on Monday night Van de Beek posted a short video on social media of him going through some rehabilitation exercises in the gym, which included cycling on a bike and doing squats, along with the caption: "Trust the process. Step by step.”

The former Ajax man had hoped to thrive under Ten Hag this season, but instead it’s been another disappointing campaign for the 25-year-old who played just 10 times in 2022/23, with only four starts. Van de Beek also failed to impress when called upon and ManchesterWorld understands he may be allowed to leave Old Trafford this summer.

United are targeting at least one new midfielder this summer and will need to sell some of their current squad in order to generate income to reinvest into the team. Scott McTominay may also be allowed to leave, with reports recently stating Newcastle United are interested in the Scotland international.
