Both have only played one fixture in the cup as a result of their European involvements which gives them a bye to round three. A youthful side put six past Wycombe Wanderers last time in the competition; Mahrez scored a brace and was joined in on the action by Kevin De Bruyne, Foden, Ferran Torres and teenage sensation Cole Palmer.

Opponents West Ham United defeated Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford with Manuel Lanzini scoring in the ninth minute.

Pep Guardiola is expected to ring the changes and introduce a number of younger players in his squad. Cole Palmer burst onto the scene this season by scoring in the Cup and has since scored in the Champions League.

A total of six teenagers played against Wycombe, however with the opposition tougher this time around, that number is unlikely this time around as the Hammers will be on the hunt for silverware.

A change between the sticks is likely with American Zack Steffen taking the place of Ederson, while John Stones who has played just 90 minutes for City should come in.

Raheem Sterling was a late withdrawal from City’s game on Saturday, owing to a back injury, but he is not expected to play in this game, or at least the whole match, should he recover in time.

In City’s win over Brighton both De Bruyne and Mahrez were not introduced until late on and could play a bigger role with one of them likely to come in for Phil Foden, who may be rested.

For West Ham United, they are without two of their Czech players with Vladimir Coufal nursing an injury whilst Alex Kral has tested positive for Covid-19.

Antonio was on the score sheet on Sunday but he could be afforded a rest by David Moyes with Jarrod Bowen, Andriy Yarmolenko and Manuel Lanzini options. The cup sees a lot of rotation so Alphonse Areola could replace Lukas Fabianski in between the sticks, while Mark Noble and Ryan Fredericks will also be keen for some first-team minutes.

Predicted line-ups

West Ham United: Areola; Fredericks, Dawson, Diop, Johnson; Rice, Noble; Yarmolenko, Lanzini, Masuaku; Bowen

Manchester City: Steffen; Egan-Riley, Stones, Ake, Zinchenko; De Bruyne, Fernandinho, Palmer; Mahrez, Jesus, Grealish
