Foden was exceptional, earning two goals and an assist in what was arguably his best performance in a City shirt as they beat Brighton & Hove Albion 4-1.

No one came close to Foden, who earned a 9.2 player rating on Sofascore and has been named in multiple Team of the Weeks for the weekend.

As well as his goals and assists, he played 33 out of 35 accurate passes with a 94% pass completion with two of those being key passes.

The 21-year-old is excelling for the Citizens right now and is earning rave reviews from everyone inside and outside of the club.

What are others saying?

İlkay Gündoğan, who got the scoring underway against the Seagulls in Sussex, was one of the many names to praise Foden’s performance.

Gündoğan said: “He was already there last season and is also this season. He’s exactly the type of player we need to be successful.

“He was exceptional again. It doesn’t matter if he plays up front or on the left, with his mobility, his movements and his sense for danger, he can help us in every single position.”

One of the most important figures in Foden’s development is his manager Pep Guardiola.

Guardiola has managed his play time well, introducing him at a young-age, when many were demanding a loan spell might benefit him.

It was more of the same from the Spainard, as he repeated how Foden could play in a number of roles, as more questions were asked on whether City need a striker in the long-term.

“There are players that play in one position and there are players who play football, when you play football it means you can play any position, you understand the game,” he said.

“In the final third he can play up front, has the quality to move and be aggressive one on one and arrive in the box. He can play as a false nine, a winger, wide right or wide left.

“He is a guy who is a midfield player with a big sense of the goal. He is still young and still has a margin to improve.”

Foden himself was also under the media spotlight on Saturday and was happy to answer questions after his performance.

Appearing on Sky Sports, he was asked how he’s finding his new false nine role.

“I’m enjoying it,” Foden responded.

“I can drop deep and get the ball and pick the passes off. It’s a new role for me and I can say I’m really enjoying it.

“On another day I could have scored three, but the main thing is the result and I’m just happy we got it today.”
