Kalvin Phillips became the 10th most expensive English footballer ever on Monday when he completed his transfer from Leeds United to Manchester City.

The midfielder said he wanted to further his career by leaving his boyhood club and joining the Premier League champions, while also citing Pep Guardiola as a major reason for signing.

He becomes City’s fourth arrival this summer following the signings of Julian Alvarez, Erling Haaland and Stefan Ortega Moreno, while Marc Cucurella is another reported target.

Phillips also joins a long list of players City have lured to the Etihad from fellow Premier League sides, with the likes of Jack Grealish, Nathan Ake, John Stones, Riyad Mahrez and Kyle Walker all making the step up from lower-ranking sides in the top flight.

But what are the numbers behind Phillips’ transfer? We’ve broken it all down below…

How much did Man City pay for Phillips?

The England international cost City an initial fee of £42m, which could rise should he achieve some potential career milestones with the club.

The final figure for Phillips is expected be somewhere around £45m.

Youngster Darko Gyabi moved in the other direction, joining Leeds for a fee of around £5m. However, this transfer was an entirely separate deal from the one involving Phillips.

What are Phillips’ wages?

It’s been widely reported the 26-year-old will earn a weekly salary of around £150,000, with Football Insider the first outlet to claim such a figure.

If true, this will likely be double what he earned at Elland Road.

Phillips has been handed the No.4 shirt by the Blues, but opted against keeping the No.23 jersey which he wore at Leeds.

Explaining his decision, City’s new signing said: “It [No.4] was a number that was presented to me, and I thought because at Leeds I had 23 which is one of my favourite numbers, I felt like because it’s a new start I wanted a different number and to try and build a legacy on that number.”

Phillips also wore the No.4 jersey for England in their latest international, the 4-0 defeat to Hungary at Molineux.
