Another pundit has weighed in on Manchester City’s UEFA Champions League final win over Inter Milan in Istanbul.

Manchester City won the Champions League on Saturday night to complete their treble dream, but their performance did not please everyone.

Pep Guardiola’s men finally won the Champions League in Istanbul after narrowly defeating Inter Milan. Rodri scored the all-important winner in the second half, and in truth, it was a rare moment of quality between two nervy teams.

Inter actually created the better opportunities, but they could not find their clinical touch and paid the ultimate price, missing out on Champions League glory.

Meanwhile, City completed their treble, becoming only the second English team in history to achieve the feat, and while their peformance was ‘disappointing’, according to Chris Sutton, they got the result, and that’s all that counts.

“It was a wonderful piece of composure from Rodri. City were disappointing, they’re normally so devastating and controlled. That was the one piece of control they had in the game,” Sutton told BBC Sport. “I quite enjoy the way City won this tonight. They did it a different way tonight through personality and character. It was all about City getting over the line tonight. They’ve done it. Historic Treble.”

Sutton also said: “What a season. A treble-winning season. The best team in the Premier League, now the best team in Europe. They’ve deserved this. Pep has been working towards this for seven years. They’ve deserved this. This is the icing on the cake.”

Sutton’s comments may ruffle some feathers, but Guardiola will likely admit himself that his side were not at their best, and they certainly were not helped by Kevin De Bruyne suffering an early injury. While they needed a little luck along the way, the Blues did hold their nerve, and they get their just reward for a sensational season, installing themselves into footballing history with a famous treble.
