Gary Lineker has issued his verdict on Manchester City’s historic treble win.

Pep Guardiola’s men completed the treble on Saturday night after a nervy evening in Istanbul. Inter pressed intensely, forcing City to dig deep throughout, and it took a a fine finish from Rodri in the second half to break the deadlock. Though, Inter has two clear-cut chances to get back on level terms, with Romelu Lukaku blocking one effort from his teammate and failing to put one away from close range.

It was not City’s best performance, but they did what they had to do and secured just reward for their sensational season.

Guardiola’s men have become on the second English team to complete the treble, following on from Manchester United in 1999, and it completes a seven-year long mission for Guardiola, with City finally winning their first Champions League title.

Writing on Twitter after the game, Match of the Day presenter Lineker said: “Champions League winners. Treble winners. What an extraordinary season for @ManCity. Congratulations to a superb football team.”

This City team will be regarded as one of the best teams of all time after their historic season, and few would have thought it after a less than ideal start to the campaign. But Guardiola’s men only improved by the game and they can now relax and celebrate after winning the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.
