Manchester Airport releases Storm Isha statement as dangerous roads identified and London trains cancelled

Manchester is set to be battered by Storm Isha's strong winds - with 80mph gusts predicted in some parts of the country. A Met Office amber weather warning is in place.

The alert runs from 6pm on Sunday to 6am on Monday with people warned about potential power cuts and damage to buildings. Winds, which will be joined by heavy rain, are expected to hit 50mph in Manchester.

The poor conditions have had an impact on travel on Sunday. Here's the latest from Manchester Airport and on the roads and trains.

Manchester Airport

Airport bosses insist it's business as usual. In a statement at 3pm, they said: "An amber weather warning is in place today for high winds. There is no impact on airport operations. Passengers are advised to check with their airline for up-to-date flight information. Road and rail services may be impacted. Plan ahead and allow extra time and care for your journey to the airport."

Rail travel

Avanti West Coast, which runs the Manchester Piccadilly services to London Euston is urging people not to travel today. At just after 3.45pm, Piccadilly announced the final Euston train would depart at 5.51pm with all others cancelled. "Please do not attempt to travel after this time," they said.

National Highways have issued an Amber Severe Weather alert for gales and have issued a list of routes that are most likely to be impacted by strong winds. For the North West, they are:

• M65 J3 - J4 Withnell and Blackburn Interchange
