Storm Isha: Greater Manchester weather warning upgraded to amber with very strong winds forecast by Met Office

Greater Manchester's Storm Isha weather warning has been upgraded to amber by the Met Office with strong winds set to batter the region on Sunday and into Monday.

An initial yellow weather warning between noon on Sunday and noon on Monday has been changed to amber and covers the 12 hours from 6pm on January 21 until 6am on Monday 22. That means there is a "good chance power cuts may occur" with "probably some damage to buildings" including tiles being blown off roofs.

Winds could hit 80mph in parts of the UK with nearly four inches of rain forecast to fall in a matter of hours in some regions. For Manchester, strong winds are likely to peak at around 50mph late on Sunday evening.

After days of snow and ice the weather conditions have changed dramatically with temperatures reaching as high as 12C amid the strong winds and rain on Sunday. Further yellow weather warnings for wind are also in place on Tuesday and Wednesday with gusts again expected to hit 50mph.
