Manchester local election candidates 2022: who is standing in my local council election, and when is the vote?

Local elections across a number of councils in and around Manchester have started today.

Get your ballots at the ready as the local council elections across the Greater Manchester region are about to begin.

Local elections are an important opportunity for residents to make their voices heard regarding local issues and how they want them to be managed.

With 10 local authorities across the region holding a vote in 2022, who are the candidates standing for election? Here is everything you need to know.

    When are the local elections?

    Polling stations are set to open on Thursday, 5 May.

    You can cast your vote between 7 am to 10 pm.

    Votes will be counted and the declarations of the results will take place on Friday 6 May. Some councils will count their votes overnight Thursday into Friday morning; others will begin the counting process at 9am on Friday and publish their results later in the day.

    How do I register to vote?

    In order to make your voice heard at the local elections across the Manchester region in 2022, you must be registered.

    You could register online via the official government website , but the deadline to register has now passed (Thursday, 14 April).

    If you are unable to vote in-person at a polling station, you can vote by post or proxy - the deadline to register for both being Tuesday, 19 April at 5 pm.
