The Manchester marathon is taking place on Sunday 3 April.

It is estimated that around 26,000 runners will take part in this year’s marathon, in what is labelled as one of the most popular marathons in Europe.

As well as the large-scale of participants, around 50,000 spectators will line the streets of Manchester, cheering on their loved ones or just supporting the runners taking part in the 26.2 mile marathon.

This is the first time the Manchester Marathon has taken place around this time of the year since 2019, after the Covid-19 pandemic caused havoc with the schedule, with last year’s marathon taking place in October.

Unless you are prepared to keep up with your friend or relative running in the marathon, the best way to keep tabs on their progress is using the marathon tracker.

This is also a perfect tool if you can’t make the marathon, as you can also use the tracker in the comfort of your own home, or anywhere else with good signal.

Here’s how it works and how you can use it during the marathon.

What is the tracker and how does it work?

The tracker is a tool that is used in order for people to track a particular person during the Manchester marathon.

It can be accessed via the Manchester marathon website, and it will give you a predicted position of a certain participant.

Timing points are to be placed at five locations on the marathon route. These timing points will be positioned at the start, 10k, halfway, 30k and the finish line.

As the runner crosses over each of these points their time will be instantly updated on the tracker.

Between these points the tracker will then show a predicted position of the runner based on their speed.

How can I access the tracker?

You can access the tracker via the predictive tracker page on the Manchester marathon website.

Simply choose the category of the participant you wish to track is in (elite, wheelchair etc) and then type in their first and last name, or number to then get a prediction of where they are at any given time during the marathon.

How can I check the results?

There are a few different ways to check your results after you have finished in the marathon.

One of the ways is to check on the official Manchester marathon website results page.

Note that this page will take around 45 minutes to update from when a runner has finished. If you check within 45 minutes it may say DNF (did not finish) as the system has not had time to update. If you’re met with this message, allow around 30 minutes before checking again.

All you need to do is search by the participants name or bib, and the results will show.

Alternatively, all participants who entered a UK mobile number will also receive their result via text message as soon as they finish.
