Who won the Manchester Marathon? 2022 results for Elite Level runners released

The first set of results from today’s race have gone live with the fastest time of the day confirmed.

The 2022 Manchester Marathon took place today, Sunday 3 April, and the results from the Elite level runners have been confirmed.

Liverpool Harriers’ Jonny Mellor has turned in the fastest time of the day, finishing the course in 2:10:46.

In second place was Stockport Harriers’ Ross Millington with Kevin Seaward coming third.

The time was a new record for the Manchester Marathon with organisers confirming Mellor’s victory via their social media channels.

The official Manchester Marathon Twitter account sent out a message saying: “Jonny Mellor is our 2022 Therme Manchester Marathon male WINNER! A new #ManchesterMarathon record of 2:10:46”.

Mellor is well know on the UK marathon scene, having competed in the 3000 metres event at the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships.

He first established himself in the marathon scene with his 10th place finish at the 2017 Berlin Marathon where he ran 2:12:57.

Meanwhile, City of Hull AC member Becky Briggs was the first female home in a time of 2:29:06.

The result smashed Briggs’ own personal best by five minutes with the athlete said to have “broken down in tears” after crossing the finish line.

The elite level runners set of at 9:05am, five minutes after the first wave of wheelchair racers.

Coming home first in the Wheelchair event was Samuel Kolek in a time of 01:48:24 with Matthew Clarke second in a time of 01:57:10.

The full results from the event will be published throughout the day and can be accessed through the official Manchester Marathon website.

It is estimated that around 26,000 runners took part in this year’s marathon, which has been labelled as one of the most popular marathons in Europe.

Not only that, but around 50,000 spectators were also thought to be in attendance to watch the runners compete across the 26.2 mile course.

How to sign-up for the 2023 Manchester Marathon

Priority places for the 2023 Manchester Marathon will be released immediately after the end of the 2022 showpiece on Sunday April 3, 2022.

In order to access these priority places you must register for updates on the official Manchester Marathon website: more details are here too.

However, registering your interest in the 2023 race does not guarantee an official place in next year’s marathon.

“We are now allowing people to register for updates by completing a form,” reads the information on the official Manchester Marathon website.

“This does not guarantee you a place in the event, but will give you priority access to the cheapest possible places ahead of the public.

“Priority places will be released on Sunday April 3, straight after the 2022 event, so look out for an email that evening.”

When is the Mancheser Half Marathon and 10k run?

If a year is too long to wait, there’s always the 2022 Manchester half marathan to look forward to.

The Great Manchester Run is scheduled for Sunday May 22, 2022.

The 10k race also takes place on the same day.
