Why Alejandro Garnacho was substituted in Manchester United win vs Ipswich as Amorim set to talk with player
Man Utd came from behind to defeat Ipswich Town in the Premier League in midweek.
Ruben Amorim says he will talk with Alejandro Garnacho after the Manchester United forward headed straight down the tunnel following his withdrawal from their 3-2 win over Ipswich Town.
United were leading 2-1 in the closing minutes of the first-half of the match when Patrick Dorgu was shown a straight red card for serious foul play after a VAR check analysed his robust challenge on Omari Hutchinson. United had been on top in the match but were forced into a tactical change, with Garnacho chosen to be replaced by defender Noussair Mazraoui.
The Argentine had only just been recalled to the starting line up after he featured from the bench against Everton last weekend and appeared to be visibly frustrated when he was taken off having started the game well. Instead of heading back to the bench to join the rest of his teammates, Garnacho headed back to the Old Trafford dressing room and was not spotted after the restart.
Why Alejandro Garnacho was substituted vs Ipswich
Asked why he chose to replace Alejandro Garnacho after the red card, Ruben Amorim told his post-match press conference: "It was cold and wet, maybe? The thinking was we'd play more in the 5-3-1. I know that is a risk because you are taking one - maybe the only player who has one against one pace, but I felt the team was okay in the controlling of the game, almost half time, then you make the substitution. We have to choose someone to go out, we have to think about set pieces also, so it was Garnacho."
Amorim was then furthered pushed for clarity on Garnacho's decision to head straight down the tunnel following his withdrawal and whether he had permission to do so. He added: "You are making a connection with Rashford, right? I know, I know. What I'm saying is I'm going to talk obviously with Garnacho about that. So I will talk about that if you want in the next press conference."
The United head coach will next speak to the press on Friday when he previews their upcoming clash with Fulham in the FA Cup.
