What Ruben Amorim's first Manchester United transfer window could look like

Man Utd head coach Ruben Amorim might not have much room for movement in the January transfer window.

Manchester United are unlikely to make significant movement in the January transfer window with player exits set to be prioritised over new arrivals.

It is understood new head coach Ruben Amorim will not be given a large budget to work with and will have to wait until next summer before if he is given the chance to shape the first-team squad into his own vision. Although he is not set to have the same influence on transfers as Erik ten Hag did in his managerial role, Amorim will still have some influence on who comes and goes, with sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox tasked to complete those deals.

While there is an acceptance the new head coach will need to bring in new players to fit his tactical demands, the 39-year-old will also be judged on how he gets the best out of the players already at his disposal given that Ten Hag spent over £600 million during his time at the club.

United's financial situation is understood to be 'tight' and the club must operate with caution in case they miss out on lucrative Champions League qualification again and see their revenues impacted by their failure to do so. They are likely to look at moving players on in January, with Antony, Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof among those who could potentially leave.

In terms of arrivals, United could be limited to loan moves for both a striker and a left wing-back, with the two positions provisionally targeted for improvement before being revaluated at the end of the season.
