Donny van de Beek has opened up on the 'tough' spell at Manchester United in which he struggled with several injuries - but the Dutchman is determined to get his career back on track.

Van de Beek joined German outfit Eintracht Frankfurt on a season-long loan earlier this week. The midfielder's move can be made permanent in the summer for a fee believed to be around £13million including add-ons.

His 2020 arrival from Ajax was seen by the majority as a positive signing for United and £35m was viewed as a reasonable price. But torrid luck regarding injuries limited the Dutchman to just six Premier League starts in three-and-a-half-years.

"If you don't play as many games as you want, it's tough, but that's the past now," Van de Beek admitted. "I'm here now and I'm positive, which is the most important thing and then things can change.

"I'm looking forward now. I think it helps when you play with players [at United] who have achieved a lot and have experience. You see them in training every day, which helps develop you and I'll try to bring that here as well to help the team.

"I've seen a lot in football now and hope to be able to pass on some of it on here. If the coach puts me on the field, I'll of course be ready. I'm fit, I played a few friendlies in the training ground. I know that's different, but I trained hard in Manchester.

"I feel good. Of course, you also need match practice to get to your best level, but I'm fit and this is the most important thing."

Frankfurt are in the middle of their annual winter break, which should allow Van de Beek to gain full match fitness in time for the Bundesliga's return at the end of this month. They have three friendlies planned in the period beforehand and the United loanee could get his first taste of football with his new club shortly.
