Manchester United’s final hours of the January transfer window could be dominated by the potential arrival of Marcel Sabitzer, but two outgoings were announced earlier in the day.

As often happens on the final day of the window, the Red Devils allowed youth players to depart, with Charlie McNeill joining Newport County for the remainder of the season, while Di’Shon Bernard joined Portsmouth on loan.

“I’m really proud and honoured to be representing this club. I know it’s a big club and a family-based club and I’m just really happy to be here,” McNeill told Newport’s website after joining. “I can’t wait to meet the lads, get training and hopefully play the game on Saturday.”

As for Bernard, he heads out for a third loan having previously played for Salford City and Hull City in short-term deals.

But there could be further departures as well, with the Manchester Evening News claiming Joe Hugill and Sonny Aljofree are set to join Altrincham for the remainder of the campaign. The outlet claim the youngsters will complete ‘innovative’ loan moves that will see them continue to train with United and be available to play for the club’s under-21 side as well representing Altrincham.

Meanwhile, speaking during Tuesday’s pre-match press conference, Erik ten Hag was asked about the possibility of Brandon Williams or Anthony Elanga heading out on loan before Tuesday’s 11pm deadline. “Could be, but it depends on certain circumstances,” he responded. “If so, it would be likely that it would be a loan.” Facundo Pellistri was also included in the question but is expected to remain at Old Trafford and play a role in the second half of the season.

According to BBC Sport, Williams ‘seems like the most high-profile potential departure’ from United on deadline day, while the Manchester Evening News reported recently that the defender is open to leaving the club on loan this window..

As for Elanga, he’s been linked with the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Roma and RB Leipzig among others, in recent days. ESPN claimed on Tuesday that the Swedish winger is being considered by Barcelona, while The Athletic reported that Everton are also keen on bringing him to Goodison Park.
