Manchester United look unlikely to make any major transfer additions ahead of Tuesday’s deadline, with limited funds meaning they can’t make significant moves despite a concern over midfield options.

An ankle injury sustained by Christian Eriksen may ultimately have a huge impact on the Red Devils’ season, and a long-term problem for the Dane could leave Erik ten Hag with just four senior midfield options for the remainder of the season. The full extent of the injury could be revealed on Tuesday during Ten Hag’s pre-match press conference, a media briefing which is likely to be dominated by transfer questions.

The former Ajax manager is also expected to be quizzed on who could depart before Tuesday’s 11pm deadline. Several fringe members of the squad and younger players have been linked with permanent or short-term moves away from Old Trafford, with a few deals expected to go through ahead of the window shutting.

Anthony Elanga is a player who has received a lot of speculation in January, with Fabrizio Romano recently telling fan channel The United Stand that as many as 10 clubs are in for the young Swede, including Borussia Dortmund, Roma and RB Leipzig.
