Man Utd were forced to play with 10-men after Patrick Dorgu was sent off against Ipswich Town on Wednesday night.

Patrick Dorgu will serve a three-match ban after he was sent off for Manchester United in their 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town on Wednesday night. The 20-year-old was shown a straight red card in the first-half of the Old Trafford clash after a VAR check for his forceful challenge on Omari Hutchinson.

Dorgu experienced a poor start to the match when he had a mix up with Andre Onana that gifted Ipswich an early lead, but he showed signs of improvement as an own goal from Sam Morsy and a finish from Matthijs de Ligt turned the game on it's head. Ipswich equalised shortly after the red card, only for United to regain the lead early on in the second-half when Harry Maguire headed in from a corner.

United showed resilience to record a rare Premier League home win but they face a difficult task to keep the run going without their January signing.

Patrick Dorgu set for three-match ban

The Premier League confirmed Patrick Dorgu was sent off for 'serious foul play' against Ipswich Town, an offence that will result in a three-match domestic ban.

It means the 20-year-old will be unavailable for the FA Cup clash with Fulham on Sunday afternoon as well as the next Premier League home match against Arsenal and the trip to face Leicester City in the league. His ban does not impact Uefa competition, so he will still be available for selection in both legs of the Europa League last-16 tie against Real Sociedad.

Speaking after the Ipswich win, Ruben Amorim defended Dorgy and insisted there was no intent in the reckless challenge that earned him a straight red card. "I know Dorgu, he doesn't want to hurt, that's the most important thing for me,” he said. “He made that mistake [at the beginning] then he ran a lot, he tried to win the balls, he was aggressive and sometimes you overdo it."
