Manchester United have suffered a heavy defeat away at Manchester City.

The Red Devils were beaten 6-3 in their latest setback under Erik ten Hag.

Pep Guardiola’s side led 4-0 at half-time and despite making an improvement in the second-half, it was an embarrassing afternoon for the visitors.

Phil Foden and Erling Haaland both scored hat-tricks for City, whilst Antony scored United’s first with a sweet strike early in the second-half.

Substitute Anthony Martial chipped in with a couple of goals near the end but the damage was already done.

Ten Hag’s side had picked up a bit of form going into the match and many thought the defensive woes they had earlier on in this campaign had been sorted.

However, they were outclassed by an outstanding City team and have been left red-faced as they leave the Etihad Stadium.

United will be hoping they can bounce back with a win away at Everton next weekend but have a Europa League trip to Omonia to get through first.

Here is a look at how some of their supporters have reacted to this defeat...

@TenHags_UTD - “Ten Hag is still leaning about his team. Some mentally weak players in there still. No overreaction. City are good and have an beast of a player. Not to mention insane players around him and a fantastic coach. We’ll be back.”

@Utd_Williams - “Erik ten Hag needs to start integrating Casemiro into games and bench McTominay, yes McTominay has improved, but needs to be a back up to Casemiro. We didn’t pay that amount to Madrid for nothing.”

@kakaimutomo - “Big up @AnthonyMartial Great play today. Build on it.”

@Guhan_Venkat - “I’m utterly utterly disappointed today.”

@AmbigaiDas - “We should have gone in attacking instead of defending. Eriksen is amazing but he singlehandedly CANNOT carry the weight of the midfield while being tasked to manmark a crucial opposing player. We went in fearing that they would score & that was exactly what happened.”

@Regi1700 - “Rounding on Ten Hag already I see. This is a long-term project, it’ll take time and patience. The first half was awful but there were decent signs in the second. Not the end of the world, losing to City like that hurts but it’s a big lesson. Rome wasn’t built in a day.”

@omcmahonmedia - “We were awful today, and that scoreline frankly flatters us - but if there are positives, they’re that we didn’t totally give up and the return of Anthony Martial. The quicker he gets back to full health the better - and we need to start integrating Casemiro into this side.”

@AnthonyMc1977 - “Terrible lack of belief and passion today and it’s going to be bumpy but keep the faith in ETH. Irrespective of their dodgy funding, City were superb 1st half….mufc forever.”

@jackhowie2 - “Terrible today but a better performance in second half, Martial with 2 goals and it’s good to see him back, we really need 3 points against Everton.”

@sebparkinson - “I’d rather lost 9-1 and go for it than 5-1 and defend to be fair.”
