Ruben Amorim tells Joshua Zirkzee what he must do better at Manchester United

Ruben Amorim took charge of Man Utd for the first time as they drew 1-1 with Ipswich Town.

Ruben Amorim believes Joshua Zirkzee has work to do on his positioning if he is to become more of a goal scoring threat for Manchester United. The Dutch forward featured from the bench in Amorim's first match in charge, as his side were held to a deserved 1-1 draw away against Ipswich Town on Sunday evening.

Amorim made three changes from the final Ruud van Nistelrooy line up, with Jonny Evans, Christian Eriksen and Alejandro Garnacho selected over Lisandro Martinez, Manuel Ugarte and Rasmus Hojlund. It meant Marcus Rashord lead the line in attack, supported by Bruno Fernandes and Garnacho in the two attacking midfield roles.

It was in one of those positions Zirkzee was introduced from the bench, replacing Eriksen in midfield while Fernandes took the vacancy in central midfield. The 23-year-old pressed with intensity and looked to bring his teammates into the match, but fluffed his only opportunity of the match with an ambitious effort from the edge of the box that sailed harmlessly into the crowd.

Zirkzee still only has one goal in 18 appearances for United since he signed from Bologna in the summer and Amorim believes a lot of his struggles are simply down to not getting into the right areas of the pitch.

"They want this, the players want this, they don't know how to get it that was my feeling," he told Sky Sports. "You start discovering things that you didn't know like Garna, can hold the ball between lines, you can understand that by seeing the games because he's always open so you try to find these things.

"Bruno Fernandes, he improved his game by playing near the ball. So he can give us the long pass but you cannot put him there all the time because he wants the long pass all the time."

"At the end of the game we are around the box with two strikers, Josh [Zirkzee] has to understand that he has to go into the box for the crosses. We are doing some things, not in the right moments. That is something we have to address."
