Ruben Amorim reveals big 'concern' about his first Manchester United match

Man Utd drew 1-1 with Ipswich Town in their first match under Ruben Amorim.

Ruben Amorim says his Manchester United players were guilty of 'thinking too much' as they tried to adapt to their new tactical approach during his match in charge.

Amorim began life as United head coach with a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town on Sunday afternoon as a superb strike from Omari Hutchinson cancelled out Marcus Rashford's opener that had come within ninety seconds of kick-off. United regressed as the match went on and could have no complaints about the full-time result, with Andre Onana their best performer after he produced two stellar stops to deny Liam Delap another Ipswich goal.

It is clear on the early evidence United will take a lot of time to adapt to their new 3-4-3 formation, while it is also obvious that there will need to be changes in personnel to make their tactics work.

Speaking after the game, Amorim gave his brutal assessment on the performance: "It's a tough league. You learn that in the first moment," he told Sky Sports. "My players were thinking too much in the game you can feel it. Not just on the ball but where they are supposed to be. And that is hard It's just two days with the team so it's really hard. I think the physicality we needed more in the first half.

"It's a tough match, we lost some balls without pressure. You have to control the ball and the tempo of the game. They didn't do it but they really tried. They are really trying and they want this.

He added: "We have to try to since the first moment, we have to address the new idea and try to be better next year at the same stage. Decision-making is a concern, you don't need to coach them in this level. We are doing some things not in the right moment and that's what we have to address. The 3-4-3 is not the concern, the understanding of the game is what we have to improve."
