Ruben Amorim says Manchester United unsung hero is 'perfect' for new role after what he did vs Liverpool FC

Man Utd recorded a famous win over Liverpool FC after goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire.

Manchester United were so good in their weekend win over Liverpool that it would almost be unfair to pick out any players in particular for their performances.

Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha lead the line in style, Bruno Fernandes produced a masterclass in central midfield, Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire were both excellent in the backline and Senne Lammens calmed the nerves with his composed performance in goal.

Ruben Amorim warned that on a different day the narrative might have changed had Liverpool taken their abundance of opportunities and he was eager to downplay the significance of their win when there is still so much work to do. However, there was still time for some lavish praise, in particular to one unsung hero of the Anfield victory, who has worked hard to secure a vital role in the starting line up.

Amad 'perfect' in wing-back role

Manchester United's win over Liverpool was not only a victory for the club, it was also a huge endorsement of Ruben Amorim's system and the tactical approach he has refused the change. United caused plenty of problems in their 3-4-2-1 formation, with the early opener a direct result of the link-up play between wing-back Amad Diallo and attacking midfielder Bryan Mbeumo.

If United are to make the system a long-term success under Amorim, then they need to have world-class wing-backs on either side, and they might have one on the right at least. Amad was a constant threat throughout the match, though there was some criticism of his defensive frailties, which were amplified against the electric Cody Gakpo.

Amorim was delighted with what he saw though and believes the Ivorian is the 'perfect' fit for the wing-back role in his formation, even if he was a little 'upset' when he was taken off in the second-half.

“Amad is doing so well in that position. He is perfect for that position," the United head coach claimed at full-time. "He was upset today when I made a sub, but it was a yellow card. There was a lot of man-to-man on the side.

"So, it was just about that. If not, he will continue in the game because he’s so important for us. He struggled these weeks, but we are here for him, and that’s the most important thing.”
