Fabrizio Romano: Ruben Amorim not giving 'green light' to Manchester United transfer for 'crucial' player
The latest Man Utd transfer news and gossip as Ruben Amorim looks to balance minutes in his squad.
Ruben Amorim has reiterated that he has no plans to allow Kobbie Mainoo or Joshua Zirkzee to leave the club during the January transfer window. The Manchester United duo have both recently been linked with moves away next year amid a lack of playing time so far this season.

Mainoo and Zirkzee were both left out of the United starting line up again for the weekend clash with Liverpool and have had to accept diminished squad roles. United rejected a request from Mainoo to leave on loan in the final days of the summer transfer window, while Amorim made it clear he had no intention to get rid of Zirkzee either.
The pair were both left out of their respective national team squads for the recent international break and are at risk of missing out on a place at next summer’s World Cup unless they begin to play regularly. United are expected to hold fresh talks with the duo over their immediate futures, though Amorim wants to keep them both around until the end of the season.
Fabrizio Romano issues Mainoo and Zirkzee update
Ruben Amorim was asked about the reports linking Kobbie Mainoo and Joshua Zirkzee with a move at his press conference on Friday and the matter was also discussed by notorious transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano in his latest YouTube video.
“Ruben Amorim said that Joshua Zirkzee, Kobbie Mainoo, they are fighting for their places at Manchester United,” Romano told viewers over the weekend. “They are not creating any problems, but obviously they want to play more, a World Cup is coming.
“Mainoo and Zirkzee, it is important to clarify, are still fighting for their places at the club, but in case they keep not playing in October, November and December, then January could be a important window for them.
“Ruben Amorim said he wants everyone to have a good season at Manchester United. He insists on keeping them, he considers Kobbie Mainoo and Joshua Zirkzee as crucial players for his project. He doesn’t want to give the green light for an exit. Now it is time to focus on United, they are not complaining now, they are just showing their desire to go to the World Cup. They want to shine for Manchester United but there is no space at the moment.”
