Ruben Amorim names his new Manchester United 'concern' after Liverpool FC win

Man Utd dug deep to defeat Liverpool FC in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Ruben Amorim was eager to play down the importance of Manchester United’s victory over Liverpool after so many false dawns during his reign as head coach. United secured back-to-back Premier League victories for the first time in his tenure as Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire struck at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

The victory lifted United to 9th place in the league table, though they are just one point behind Chelsea in fifth and only two behind Liverpool who sit fourth. It also eased the pressure on Amorim, after reports sensationally claimed he could have been sacked if they had not beaten Sunderland earlier in the month.

Since then, United have won both of their Premier League matches and co-owner Jim Ratcliffe publicly backed Amorim, who he stated would need three years in the role before he could be fairly judged. You are only as good as your last result in football and while spirits are high after victory over Liverpool, Amorim knows they could change quickly if they do not beat Brighton at home next weekend.

Amorim focused on Brighton match

Speaking after the 2-1 win over Liverpool at the weekend, Ruben Amorim played down the significance of the win and insisted his focus was on the home match with Brighton on Saturday evening.

"It doesn't mean a lot. It means it today. But tomorrow it is not going to mean a lot. It's three points, but it's a good victory," he told Sky Sports. "I will do the same thing I did in the last few games, which is try to see the game. In key points, we had some luck, but we fought for every ball; we lost our composure in the second half.

"But the most important thing was that the spirit was there. That is the beginning of everything. Sometimes you play more with the ball, other days you play without the ball. But if you have the spirit, you can win any game. Of course, we need moments: to score first, saves from our goalkeeper, one shot on the post - to start believing that we can win any game. But you can feel it, any transition, some moments with the ball, they started believing it was possible.

"Now I'm concerned about Brighton. Yeah, because I have one year of experience, I will enjoy it. I'm not dumb, I have to. But let's focus on Brighton.”
