Hojlund dropped, Amad in new role - Ruben Amorim names first Manchester United line up to face Ipswich Town
Man Utd starting XI as Ruben Amorim names his line up to face Ipswich Town in the Premier League fixture.
Ruben Amorim has named his Manchester United line up for his first match in charge of the club against Ipswich Town.
United are back in action when they travel to Portman Road on Sunday afternoon and the new head coach has made a few notable changes from the team that faced Leicester City in Ruud van Nistelrooy’s final match as interim boss.
Rasmus Hojlund has been dropped from the attack, with Marcus Rashford chosen to lead the line along with Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes. Amad Diallo has been repurposed in the right wing-back role, with Diogo Dalot selected on the left.
Jonny Evans replaces Lisandro Martinez on the left side of United’s new-look back three, with Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui in the other two central defensive roles. Casemiro partners Christian Eriksen in central midfield with Andre Onana the choice in goal.
There is some positive injury news for the match, with Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo both named on the bench, though there is a shortage of senior defensive options available to Amorim. Leny Yoro is not yet fit enough to be involved, while Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire both miss out on any involvement.
There is no place on the bench for 16-year-old defender Godwill Kukonki, who has trained with the first-team throughout the week and travelled to the match.
United XI vs Ipswich: Onana; Mazraoui, De Ligt, Evans; Amad, Casemiro, Eriksen Dalot; Fernandes, Garnacho, Rashford.
Subs: Bayindir, Malacia, Shaw, Mainoo, Mount, Ugarte, Antony, Hojlund, Zirkzee.
