'His choice' - Ruben Amorim explains why Marcus Rashford still isn't playing for Manchester United
Man Utd were beaten 3-1 by Brighton in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Ruben Amorim insists it is Marcus Rashford’s choice why he is not playing for Manchester United at this moment in time.
It is over a month since the 27-year-old last featured for his boyhood club, and he has only been named in one of their last nine matchday squads across all competitions. Even when he was named on the bench to face Newcastle, it was only a last resort because Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte were both suspended.
United are still looking to move Rashford on in the January transfer window, though it remains unclear where his future lies as we edge closer to deadline day. United would likely have to subsidise the forward's wages if he left on loan, with few clubs in a position to buy him permanently this month.
Rashford's absence has coincided with a rotten run for United, having lost five of the last nine matches he has not played in, and they only managed one shot on target in their defeat to Brighton at the weekend.
When asked if he was let down by the absence of Rashford, Amorim told reporters: "No. It is his choice. I don’t want to focus this bad moment because in this games we lost, Rashford is not here. I don't want to put this moment on Rashford. Rashford is out of this moment because he is not playing. No matter what, I am not going to put a player I don’t believe is the best for the team."
