Ralf Rangnick has said ‘it is possible’ that Juan Mata will leave Manchester United this summer.

The 34-year-old’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and he is widely expected to move on, although there has been no official confirmation from either the player or club on the matter.

United’s No.8 did see to bid farewell to the home supporters after Monday’s 3-0 win over Brentford, a game Mata started in and earned our man-of-the-match accolade for his impressive display in the No.10 role.

The Spaniard made a conscious effort to applaud all sections of the crowd after the match, before spending a significant amount of time signing autographs for supporters in the pouring rain.

While Nemanja Matic has confirmed he will be leaving in the summer, no such announcement has come from Mata, and Rangnick was asked in his post-match press conference if the latter will also be departing in the coming weeks.

“I don’t know, he hasn’t confirmed that,” the 63-year-old responded. “But it’s possible and that was an important night for players who have been here for quite a long time and played well for this club.

“If it was their last game, to say farewell like this, it was also a great experience for those players.

“In the last couple of weeks, he [Mata] was one of those players who in training showed how professional he is and how much he loves this game,” Rangnick added. “I think you could see and feel it. At times he had moments where he played like a magician [against Brentford.”
