'Clear plan' - Patrick Dorgu reveals why he joined Manchester United after transfer announced


Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Patrick Dorgu, subject to visa and registration. The Denmark international has signed a contract until June 2030, with the option of an additional year.
It is understood United have paid an initial £25 million for the Lecce defender, with a further £4m in performance-related add-ons. The 20-year-old has made 57 senior appearances for Lecce and contributed five goals. He has also scored with his very first touch on his international debut with Denmark last September.

Hide AdRuben Amorim prioritised the addition of a wing-back in the January transfer window with Dorgu identified as his top target for the role. He could make his debut when they host Leicester in the FA Cup next week.

Speaking after the deal was confirmed, United technical director Jason Wilcox explained the move and why they had moved quickly to add him to their squad. “Patrick is a really exciting talent; his strong defensive and attacking attributes, adaptability and work-rate will make him a key part of Ruben Amorim’s squad. Patrick has had a superb start to his career, and at the age of just 20, we know he will continue to develop under the guidance of our excellent coaching team. Patrick is the latest exciting young player that we have bought into the club. We believe that each of these talents has world-class potential and the ability to play a key role in achieving the success that everyone at Manchester United is striving for.”
