Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has dominated the headlines following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan. The Portugal international is now facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford following a series of revelations made by the attacker about his time at the club so far.

The 37-year-old, who is heading to the World Cup this week, is out of contract at the end of this season. He is in line for an interesting January transfer window when he is back from Qatar.

Ronaldo played at United with Rio Ferdinand during his first spell at Old Trafford and his former team-mate has become the latest to speak out about the current situation, on his Vibe with Five podcast. “You can’t sit here and defend that from Cristiano Ronaldo,” said the ex-defender. “Deep down and I know it for a fact, this has all been manufactured for one thing - and that’s for him to leave the club.

“This love affair with Man United that Cristiano has had is over in my eyes. I don’t feel there’s any way back, I don’t feel the club will take him back and I don’t think that he wants to come back. This is all manufactured for that reason. Up to this interview I would defend him, and say the club have a big responsibility to communicate better.”

Ferdinand believes Ronaldo’s time at the club is over now and for someone who has been quick to defend him in the past, he says there is no way back for him at Old Trafford now. United re-signed the attacker from Juventus last summer, in a transfer which was completed on deadline day.

He fired 24 goals in all competitions last term, 18 of which came in the Premier League. But he has struggled for game time this term and his return to the Red Devils has turned sour, with most signs point towards a winter exit now.
