Speaking on Sky Sports, pundit Graeme Souness has admitted he doesn’t think Manchester United have a chance of winning the title race. The Red Devils are 3rd in the Premier League table ahead of their clash against Leicester City at Old Trafford.

They are still behind table toppers Arsenal and rivals Manchester City and despite their impressive run of form under Erik ten Hag, they still have a fair bit of catching up to do. They will make the Champions League though if their current level of performance continues.

Souness, who won the old First Division with Liverpool five times, has said: “It’s not impossible (that United will win the league). I very much doubt it. I think several things would have to happen. Both City and Arsenal would have to have an incredible collapse. Both would have to fall off a cliff.

“I don’t think that will happen. From United’s point of view, for them to continue to win games they have to keep their main man fit and that is Marcus Rashford. (He’s got) 22 goals already this year, five goals last year, and he ain’t finished. Keep him fit and they have a chance.”

He added: “Both Arsenal and Man City aren’t going to collapse, not in that manner.”

For the title to even be mentioned in regards to United is a credit to the work they have been doing over recent times. Everything key man Marcus Rashford touches turns to gold at the moment and he is causing real problems to opponents.

There is still a lot of football to be played between now and the end of the season. However, like Souness says, Arsenal and City would have to both collapse if they are to take top spot.
