Speaking earlier this season, new Leeds United signing Maximilian Wober revealed Manchester United were his ‘dream club’. The defender has made the move to the Premier League now from Red Bull Salzburg.

He has been playing his football at the Red Bull Arena since 2019 and went on to make 125 appearances in all competitions, scoring nine goals from the back. The 24-year-old wasn’t in the Austria squad for the World Cup last month but has now landed himself a switch to England anyway.

Wober, who has also played for Rapid Wien, Ajax and Sevilla in the past, had this to say about his transfer plans four months ago to Sky Sport Austria (via Stretty News):

“Of course, I’m tempted to go abroad in one way or another. But I made a conscious decision in the summer to extend my contract with Salzburg once again, because I’ve really found joy and fun in football here again.

“I’ve blossomed again, and I’ve grown into an absolute leader in the team and in the club. Since Manchester United is my absolute dream club, I would definitely say ‘yes’ there, but it won’t play out. There has been no contact.”

United take on Leeds on 12th February at Elland Road and Wober will get the chance to play against the Red Devils then. Erik ten Hag’s side have a fair few matches to get through in the meantime as they look to extend their impressive form.

AFC Bournemouth are the visitors to Old Trafford this evening and the hosts go into the game on the back of a 1-0 win away at Wolves last time out, with in-form Marcus Rashford scoring the winner. He has now scored 11 goals in all competitions this term and has already doubled his tally from the last campaign.
