Matheus Cunha shirt number confirmed as Manchester United 'significant' summer transfer planned

Man Utd have only signed one player in the summer transfer window and his squad number has been revealed.

Matheus Cunha will wear the No.10 shirt for Manchester United in his debut season with Marcus Rashford set to leave the club in the summer transfer window.

The Brazilian playmaker remains the only senior signing United have completed this summer ahead of their return to pre-season training next week. United agreed to pay Wolves his £62.5 million release clause as Cunha signed an initial five-year deal at Old Trafford, with the option of an additional year.

It was speculated Cunha would wear the No.10 shirt for United next season and the decision was confirmed on Friday afternoon in the wake of news that five players had informed the club they wanted to leave this summer. United will allow those players seeking transfers an extended summer break in order to facilitate potential exits.

Marcus Rashford set for exit

Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia have all told Manchester United they want to leave the club this summer and they will be allowed to report for pre-season duty later to finalise moves.

United sources insist they respect and understand the decision of the players and have delayed their required return date until later in July to allow them time to explore possible transfers. The club insists their medical and rehabilitation facilities will remain available to the players should any wish to come in and use them, and remote support will continue as always. If their players are not resolved during the extended break, they will all be welcomed back to Carrington ahead of the new season.

In the case of academy graduate Rashford, club sources reiterated he would remain a 'significant part' of the club's recent history and will always be respected as one of the club’s most successful academy products. Rashford netted 138 goals in 426 appearances for his childhood club, in which time he has won the Europa League, two FA Cups, two League Cups and awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire for his charity work.

United sources also reiterated the focus this summer is on building a 'dynamic and cohesive squad' with players who are fully focused on challenging for the biggest honours with United.
