Manchester United suffer fourth fresh injury blow as key player ruled out for 'a few weeks'

Man Utd have suffered another setback following their goalless draw with Aston Villa in the Premier League.

Harry Maguire has confirmed he will be out for ‘a few weeks’ in the latest injury blow to Manchester United.

The 31-year-old started for United against Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon, but was withdrawn at half-time of the match having gone down injured in the dying seconds of the first-half.

Maguire was replaced by Matthijs de Ligt at the break, while fellow defender Noussair Mazraoui was also withdrawn as Victor Lindelof took his place at right-back. Maguire was spotted wearing a protective boot as he left Villa Park and took to social media on Tuesday to confirm his injury setback.

“Frustrated to pick up an injury at the weekend, will be a few weeks on the sideline for me but I’ll come back stronger,” he wrote. It is understood the centre-back suffered a muscle injury and will now face several weeks out.

Maguire’s setback comes at a time when United have also been dealt a triple injury scare. Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo and Mazraoui have all withdrawn from international duty as a precaution but there is hope they could all still be involved against Brentford next week.

It remains to be seen who will take charge of United for the clash against Brentford, with the future of manager Erik ten Hag set to be discussed at the latest monthly executive committee in London on Tuesday. Ruud van Nistelrooy is viewed as the ideal short-term appointment to steady the ship at Old Trafford, with Thomas Tuchel currently the favourite to take charge permanently should a change be required.
