'Privilege' - What Thomas Tuchel said about Manchester United as Erik ten Hag decision looms
Man Utd are set to discuss the future of manager Erik ten Hag at a monthly executive committee in London on Tuesday.
Thomas Tuchel has already spoken glowing about his desire to manage at Old Trafford as Manchester United's leadership team meet today to discuss the future of under fire boss Erik ten Hag.
Tuchel is currently considered the favourite to potentially succeed Ten Hag should he be sacked and the former Chelsea and Bayern Munich coach even held talks with Sir Jim Ratcliffe during the summer.
The 51-year-old has taken charge of four matches at Old Trafford in his managerial career, winning three and drawing once during visits with Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Bayern.
It was ahead of his latest trip back in December of last year, that Tuchel spoke of the wonder of visiting Old Trafford and what a 'privilege' he considered it to be following in the footsteps of greats.
"No one puts their feet up in Old Trafford. It's one of the biggest stages in world football," Tuchel told TNT Sports. "It's a very special atmosphere, and I'm happy to have the privilege to be on the sideline for a Champions League match at Old Trafford. So on these kind of occasions, you need to bring the best out of yourself and out of our team. It's normal. Nothing else matters."
He added: "If you play at Old Trafford, there is a sense of a very special football stage. And there is a sense of a very special occasion. I'm very sure that none of the players would accept to just rest for the sake of resting or due to the situation in the table. These are the stages and these are the matches that you absolutely want to play."
