Manchester United ‘leading race’ for Barcelona star as fresh Harry Kane transfer links emerge

A look at the latest Manchester United transfer rumours as Ralf Rangnick and his men pick up the pieces following a defeat to Atletico Madrid.

Manchester United are staring down the barrel of another trophy-less season after their disappointing Champions League defeat on Tuesday night.

Ralf Rangnick’s men failed to land a serious blow on Atletico Madrid at home in their second-leg loss, and paid the ultimate price as they were eliminated 2-1 on aggregate.

All the club’s attention will now turn to securing a top-four finish, although even that looks tricky, and there is already talk of a big summer overhaul.

Not only will the Red Devils need a new manager come the start of next season, but several new signings could arrive as part of a big squad shuffle.

And with that in mind, we have rounded up all the latest transfer rumours...

Gavi proposal

United are said to be in the mix to sign Barcelona talent Gavi, who faces an uncertain future.

The 17-year-old is only under contract at Camp Nou until 2023 and Barca reportedly want to keep him long-term, but initial contract offers have been rejected, with the Catalan giants looking to save cash for summer transfers.

As a result, United, Arsenal and Liverpool are said to have made a contract proposal ahead of making an official bid, according to Gerard Romero.

It’s claimed United have topped Arsenal and Liverpool’s proposal by around £1.2million.

Another Akanji move

The Red Devils are rumoured to have made a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Manuel Akanji.

Amid United’s struggles and the disappointing form of Harry Maguire, BILD have reported that United have made ‘another’ approach for Akanji.

The defender is only under contract until 2023, meaning he could be available for a finance-friendly deal in relation to his talent.

Kane chatter

As talks of a squad reshuffle continue, The Daily Mirror have claimed United could move for Tottenham Hotpsur superstar Harry Kane this summer.

Kane was heavily linked with Manchester City last summer, but a move didn’t come off, with the striker eventually deciding to stay put after the Spurs hierarchy refused to sanction a deal.

The report claims City could concentrate on landing Erling Haaland this summer, potentially opening the door for United to move for Kane.
