Manchester United are targeting Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde, according to Mundo Deportivo. Paris Saint-Germain are also considering a move for the defender.

Balde joined Barcelona’s academy eleven years ago before making his senior debut as a substitute in a Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich last September. The Spaniard has made 12 appearances in La Liga this season and has featured on both flanks, competing with the likes of Sergi Roberto and Jordi Alba for a place in the starting line-up. Balde’s impressive performances in Spain led to a call-up for the World Cup following injury to Jose Gaya and he went onto make four appearances in Qatar - making his only start in their defeat to Japan.

Balde has now caught the eye of United and PSG who could look to snap him up after the World Cup, however the report claims that Barca’s main priority is tying the full-back down to a new contract. Balde’s current deal expires in over 18 months and the two parties have already held talks over an improved deal, while the Catalan giants are very relaxed about his situation.

Despite this, United could still look to tempt Balde with a move to Old Trafford after he previously claimed he ‘would like to play’ for the Red Devils, while United also have close ties with his agent Jorge Mendes. Erik ten Hag’s side could offer Balde a very attractive package to move to the Premier League given Barcelona’s financial situation, however another arrival in that position seems unlikely without a departure first. United have Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Brandon Williams on the left, while they are looking to offload Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the near future. If they can sell the right-back then they may consider Balde as an option on that side.
