Man Utd will look to overhaul their squad in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United have held 'positive talks' over a potential move for Wolves star Matheus Cunha in the summer transfer window. Ruben Amorim would like to add an attacking midfielder to his squad this summer and has already given approval over a possible move for Cunha.

United have prioritised the addition of a striker in the summer but believe adding an attacking midfielder to their squad is another important step to address their lack of goals. Wolves have scored 10 more goals than United in the Premier League this season and Cunha has netted 14 during the campaign. Bruno Fernandes is United's leading league scorer with eight to his name.

The 25-year-old insisted on a £62.5 million release clause when he signed a new Wolves contract in January, and in that sense would be a rather straightforward deal to complete. Wolves would want the bulk of the fee paid upfront, though there is a belief United would be able to do so if they manage to shift some players this summer.

United hold positive contract talks with Cunha

A proposed summer move for Matheus Cunha is rather straightforward given his release clause, though it is believed there is some scope to pay it in instalments, rather than the bulk fee Wolves would like. United hope to raise transfer funds through the sales of fellow forwards Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony, so even paying the majority of the £62.5m fee is not out of the question.

The Athletic say Ruben Amorim and United executives are 'aligned' in their efforts to sign Cunha this summer and they have already taken steps towards finding an agreement on his personal terms. Cunha would want to be paid more than he currently is for Wolves, though United want to learn from past mistakes as they look to overhaul their own wage structure.

United would also like to sign a striker, with Liam Delap viewed as their preferred option in that position. The club wants to sign players with Premier League experience who should have less trouble adapting to their new surroundings than players from a foreign league.
