Man Utd are set to sanction another player sale in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United defender Will Fish will have a medical at Cardiff City on Thursday ahead of completing a permanent transfer to the Championship club.

United have agreed to sell Fish to the South Wales side in a deal understood to be worth roughly £2 million, though it has been suggested his move will not be formally announced until Friday.

Cardiff boss Erol Bulut is keen to strengthen his central defensive options after the sale of Mark McGuinness to Luton Town, with Fish lined up for a potential debut when they face Swansea in the South Wales derby this weekend.

The 21-year-old has always been well-regarded at United but was always unlikely to make it into the first-team of his boyhood club. Fish featured for United in pre-season while a number of senior defenders were away but was stretched off with an injury in the final friendly defeat to Liverpool. Fish's injury wasn't as severe as first feared and he has recovered suitably enough for him to complete a move to Cardiff before deadline day.

The young centre-back struggled on loan with Stockport County earlier in his career but impressed during two spells with Scottish side Hibernian. He made his only competitive appearance for United when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave him his senior debut as a 17-years-old against Wolves on the final day of the 2020/21 Premier League season.

United have strengthened at centre-back this summer with the arrival of both Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt, meaning Fish was far down the pecking order for any future first-team opportunities.
