Manchester United have agreed new long-term professional contracts with academy duo Sam Mather and Ethan Ennis.

The two teenagers represent some of the finest talent in United's illustrious youth set-up, with both players dreaming of a future first-team role at Old Trafford.

Mather and Ennis were both involved in United's FA Youth Cup victory two years ago, starring alongside the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho as they defeated Nottingham Forest in the final.

Mather, 19, was born in Salford and has been of the set-up since a young age. The winger netted twice at Old Trafford in the FA Youth Cup run and made headlines earlier this year when he scored four goals against Norwich, including a 15-minute hat-trick.

He could well secure a future loan move, having enjoyed a taste of senior football during a spell with Rochdale last season in which scored two goals in 10 National League appearances.

Ennis, 19, impressed for Erik ten Hag's side in their first two pre-season matches against Rosenborg and Rangers having only just returned from a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his knee last October.

The former Liverpool forward already has two goals in two matches this season for the U21s and is set to stay at the club until January at least rather than depart on a loan move.
