One Manchester United academy graduate is heading back to England after four years in Spain

Manchester United academy graduate Largie Ramazani is heading back to England to join Championship side Leeds United, per a number of reports.

The 23-year-old from Belgium arrived at the Red Devils academy in 2017 from Charlton Athletic and spent three years in Manchester before joining Spanish side Almeria on a free transfer. The now 23-year-old signed his first professional contract at Old Trafford in March 2018 and made his senior debut - and only appearance for the club - in a Europa League clash with FC Astana in November 2019. He was offered a new deal by United at the time, according to Football Espana, but rejected the offer to pursue first-team opportunities elsewhere. He has since played 128 times for Almeria, scoring 22 goals and nine assists and has earned a switch back to England.

The Yorkshire Evening Post reports a medical is already scheduled at Elland Road after a £10m fee was agreed. The Whites have funds to spend after selling Crysencio Summeville and Georginio Rutter to United’s Premier League rivals West Ham and Brighton for a combined £65m. Leeds missed out on promotion to the Premier League last season after suffering a 1-0 loss in the Championship play-off final against Southampton. They were relegated from the top flight in the 2022-23 campaign as a number of managerial changes failed to spark their season into life as they placed 19th.

The Red Devils took four points off the Whites during that season as the sides played each other within the space of five days due to fixture rearrangements. The rivals drew 2-2 at Old Trafford on February 8, 2023 before Erik ten Hag’s side claimed a 2-0 victory at Elland Road on February 12. Leeds were promoted to the Premier League in 2020 after winning the Championship title as the Red Devils renewed their rivalry with the West Yorkshire club.

The Old Trafford club won four and drew two of the six league meetings the sides had before the Whites were sent back down to the Championship. The two clubs played out a number of fierce encounters in the early days of the Premier League but the rivalry dwindled as Leeds spent a number of seasons in the EFL. They met twice in cup competitions during Leeds’ top-flight exile with the Whites winning a third-round FA Cup clash 1-0 in January 2010 before the Red Devils claimed a 3-0 triumph in a League Cup clash at Elland Rod back in September 2011.

The rivalry started back in the 1960s following Leeds’ promotion to the top flight, with the clubs going head-to-head for honours on a number of occasions during that era.
